What’s the deal with all the 3-D movies lately? I thought it was alright having ‘Avatar’ and ‘Toy Story 3′ doing it, but why in the world does ‘Step Up 3‘ need it?

What’s the deal with all the 3-D movies lately? I thought it was alright having ‘Avatar’ and ‘Toy Story 3′ doing it, but why in the world does ‘Step Up 3‘ need it?
I don’t know what the big deal is about them, but then again, I have never actually seen a 3-D movie though. I did have a major affinity towards 3-D comics back in the late 80’s when everybody published one.
I actually haven’t seen a 3-D movie either. I wish that I saw ‘Avatar’ in 3-D, that looks like it would’ve been worth it. But most movies just stick it in without much thought.
